…is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It’s kind of romantic. All the lights, the Christmas markets, hot wine in the street and the typical sweets. I can feel how the supposed cold character of Estonian people has changed. May be is because they feel more confident with me or may be it is because of the festivities.

It was kind of difficult to explain to my mum that I was going to spend Christmas and also New Year here and not go to Spain, but she already knew it because she knows her daughter, of course. So I have been here all month and I am not planning to go to my country up to now and no in a near future.

My December... I really enjoyed December. I really liked (and still like) going to the Youth Center, spending the weekends in other places, meeting new people and feeling the Christmas vibes.

Every week there was something, like student company markets, baking cookies and decorating the youth center. Also I went home (Austria), where I finally saw my boyfriend, friends, family and relatives in real-life again. <3 After one week there I came back to Estonia, where I celebrated New Year in Tallinn.

By the time I am writing this, there is snow everywhere. It’s so amazing to wake up and that the first thing you see was snow covering even the smallest leave, that my mornings are not bad anymore. I feel like a kid when I’m going by the streets kicking mounds of snow and I know that people here think there is something wrong with me, but this is so new to me that I don’t want to pretend not being happy. I feel blissful with this kind of winter. And yes I have tried to eat snow from the sky.

There is just one little thing wrong with Estonian winter. I am having some troubles with the daylight, or the lack of daylight to be more accurate. Even though I am quite active, when I leave work around 6 o’clock, it’s already dark and my body understands this as bed time. Drinking a lot of caffeine doesn’t seem healthy or effective. So please, help me giving me some tricks or advise to endure that situation. PLEEEEEASE. Me, Nadja and Nina will be eternally in debt with you (Tolly is always closed studying Estonian so he doesn’t care).

My name is Tania and I’m from Spain. I am the first volunteer with my colleague Nina in NGO Valga County Youth Work Center Tankla and I’m quite proud of this. Everybody ask me WHY did I choose Estonia and if I’m doing ok with the weather, but the fact is that I’m not coming from the typical sunny and warm places in Spain. Galicia, my home county, is in the northwest of Spain and every storm which comes from the Atlantic Ocean touches first Galicia. So I’m used to have rainy weather almost every day. The rain it’s a friend to me and may be a reason to feel nostalgic but never depressed.

You may notice that I’m not talking about snow because it’s really rare to see snow where I came from. So I’ll explain my experience and sensations about it in other chapter when it had already started to snow. I hope as you, I could see mountains of snow in the street and have a proper Estonian winter.

Already more or less 1.5/2 years ago I said “goodbye” to an amazing year and to my second home-country Estonia. I was leaving Estonia with a heart full of joy and memories, with new friends and experiences I won’t forget! <3
At home my family and friends welcomed me with a lot of hugs, kisses and good food. Even though it felt weird being surrounded by all of them again, I was (am) very happy seeing everyone again and talking about all my small and big adventures at least 300 times.
